MoU Between AKCC, SK TUNSAS, and UUMISM to Boost Golf Development in Melaka
AYER KEROH, April 19 – In an effort to produce more high-quality golfers from the state of Melaka, Ayer Keroh Country Club (AKCC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UUM International School Melaka (UUMISM) and Sekolah Kebangsaan Tun Syed Ahmad Shahabuddin (SK TUNSAS).
AKCC General Manager, Syed Mahadzir Syed Yassin, stated that the MoU is seen as a step towards developing a new generation of young golf talents in Melaka.
He noted that Melaka was once among the leading states in producing professional golfers for the country.
“Based on last year’s national ranking, Melaka was sixth in terms of producing quality young golf talents, and we are working to strengthen that position at the national level.
“With this MoU, we provide the venue and facilities for the players; UUMISM will contribute by providing coaching and instructors, while SK TUNSAS will act as the coordinating school for golf activities.
“The MoU also serves to inform parents and teachers in Melaka that they can now send their children to AKCC for proper golf training, potentially grooming them into quality golfers,” he said during the signing ceremony held at AKCC on Thursday.
Earlier, the closing ceremony of the Melaka State Schools Sports Council (MSSNM) Golf Championship also took place, officiated by the State Executive Councillor for Education, Higher Education, and Religious Affairs, Datuk Rahmad Mariman, who is also the Chairman of AKCC.
Further commenting, Syed Mahadzir said they are aware that currently, there is only one school in the state with a dedicated golf club.
He highlighted the encouraging number of participants in this year’s MSSNM Golf Championship as a positive sign.
“With this MoU in place, we hope parents now know where to send their children to learn and train in golf. During the tournament, we observed many schools that lack golf facilities but still sent representatives.
“Students who represented their schools expressed strong interest in pursuing golf seriously.
“One more thing to note – AKCC is a trusted golf club with the largest membership in the state, consisting of around 2,200 members from various age groups,” he added.
